A public accounting of my quest for the Good Life: what it is, how I'll get there and how I'll drag my family kicking and screaming along with me.

Who's it for, anyway?

Last weekend was Thanksgiving here in Canada and I did the whole turkey dinner with all the fixin's. So here I was Saturday evening standing in the grocery store check out with a cart full of the last frozen turkey and everything else I needed to turn out a Martha moment. The guy behind me had a store-roasted chicken and a can of gravy.

Well, I don't feel envy all that often, but I looked at that and a picture of how I would spend the day with my cart load flashed through my mind followed by a slower, calmer picture of how my day would unfold with his purchases.

Let me just say, I did make a turkey dinner that would make Martha proud and we all enjoyed it ( my 4 year old's coment was ' I liked the berry jam best'). When all was done, my husband thanked me for all the effort and told me how wonderful it was, but, he said,"I'm not sure everyone really appreciates all the effort you put into it."

If it's the thought that counts, I think next year I'll think about a big turkey dinner and buy something simpler.
